Job vs. Career at Umbrella Managed Systems

Have you ever had one of those jobs that you just loathed waking up for? Looking for any excuse you can think of to call in.

In the last 15 years, I’ve had around 35 different jobs throughout my high school/college days, and I understand the drag of going to a job you don’t enjoy at all. However, this all changed for me when I started at Umbrella, where my mindset of having just another job changed into developing an actual career with this company.

Four years ago, when I first started at Umbrella, my mindset towards having a job was just grind until you get bored or can’t stand it anymore, then move on to the next opportunity. I admit, I was a bit arrogant because I’d never had much trouble finding new jobs.

Luckily for me, Umbrella had other plans.

I found out very quickly that the culture that’s been created at Umbrella is very captivating. Co-workers became quick friends. Any time there was an issue someone got stuck on, everybody was willing to jump in to help assist. With my previous jobs, this wasn’t the case. The mentality was every man for himself.

After a few months had passed at Umbrella, I went out to lunch with Heath (one of the owners). In the middle of a chicken quesadilla he bluntly asked me, “Where do you see yourself in 5 years at Umbrella?” Honestly, I hadn’t put that much thought into it. I knew at that time it was a company that I wanted to stay with, but hadn’t planned out a career path within. It was a pretty cool experience having the owner of the company taking an interest in what my goals were and seeing what he could do to help. That lunch was the changing point for me. I wouldn’t be just hanging around jobs anymore waiting for the next opportunity. I would be as equally invested in Umbrella as it was in me. And from there, Heath assisted me with planning out my career path.

Since then, I’ve worked my butt off for the company and put in a lot of long hours. Because of that, I’ve been given the opportunity to advance my position in the company multiple times. The company has doubled in size and the trend continues.

Joining the Umbrella team is one of the best decisions I’ve made in my life, and in the past four years I’ve never had a morning where I didn’t want to make it into the office. As a matter of fact, I look forward to going into the office.

There are a couple of Service Desk positions that have recently opened up at Umbrella.
